Avoid Ancare Veterinary Surgery in Canterbury, Kent, like the plague!!! Here is why: Yesterday, I watched a "Tonight" ITV programme I had recorded on 16.3.09 but not yet watched. There was a feature about a dog who had been hit by a car and Mr Sanyal, a vet at that surgery, told the owner the dog's pelvis was broken in three places. He kept the dog in for a few days and charged £500. A while later, the dog got injured again and the owner took her to another vet who did Xrays and confirmed that the dog had never had a broken pelvis at all. That vet apparently was fleecing a lot of people. There was the case of a dog who had to have a leg bandaged (I can't remember why) and Mr S. had bandaged it so tightly the poor dog got gangrene and had to have the leg amputated! That happened to a cat treated by the same Mr S. as well. He was struck off (several of his staff gave evidence against him, as they knew what he was doing) but he was reinstated because he had shown remorse and had undertaken a course to improve his skills?!! Worse of all, he is an RCVS accredited vet !!!! Makes you think, doesn't it ?? I wonder what the criteria are for being a member of the RCVS, perhaps they are not as stringent as we think. Whilst I am sure most vets are honest, well, there was also a feature on how some vets were encouraged to push for unecessary treatment by the owners of some surgeries.

Hello there, Your post is old, I know, but I only saw it today. You 're absolutely right, this is a vet to be avoided. I was unlucky enough not to have known his story before my cat's injury so I took her there. Long story short, she broke her leg, he bandaged her, and when he eventually removed the bandage -they asked me to leave her from 11 untill 5-the paw was swollen and infected. I called them on the phone on the same night twice, they actually blamed me for not restricting her and letting her jump around. As if I caused infection and bad circulation by myself!!! They came to this conclusion without looking at the cat. Although they offered me to go next morning or it would cost £90 to take her in the evening. I took her to Barton's hospital (emergency crew). The vet there was excellent, explained me everything and prescripted antibiotics and painkillers. It looks like the leg has healed and the damage was not important, so Sanyal was not too dangerous from this aspect, but all these hours that my poor kitten was at his clinic he didn't see the wound and told me nothing about it or any Painkillers that she might have needed. Most importantly, he didn't take an x-ray, which I thought that was the reason why he wanted me to leave her all this time. All in all I find him negligent and not very good at explaining guardians what's going on with their beloved pets.
