one of mine (floss) isnt well. We went away for new year and when we got back she was suddenly very thin when i saw her at her waterbottle.
I was worried our christmas tree was the cause as the room was filled with a very strong pine aroma, we dumped the tree outside immediately, we had her front teeth trimmed but she was to thin for her back teeth to be got at, she will eat porridge and chopped sunflower seeds but then sits kind of chewing her teeth. she clicks a little but if i touch her nose i can feel the clicks cooincide with chewing so i dont think its her breathing
im not sure our vet is that knowledgeable about gerbils, can anyone recommend a gerbil expert in liverpool? she's a stable 55g for the last week her sister is 70 so she needs to eat more. and being so thin i want to go see a vet who knows her stuff to keep the stress to a minimum. do they sedate to trim back teeth usually?

You'll have to use the sticking with the RCVS listing to find a vet, a good liverpudlian vet I know of was used by gerbilmummy called Martin but she no longer comes on here and I can't find the name/location of her veterinary centre. It could've been the Martin Owen on here as he was very interested in scent gland tumours, etc in rodents. www.dickwhitereferrals-cpd.com/tutors.cfmAnyway, with any vet, phone up and enquire about their experience treating small rodents, especially as not all RCVS vets are cracked up to what they should be!

thanks loz, i'll call her tommorrow and she what my local vet says - shes may fav vet in the area and bee ngreat with my other pets, ive resorted to blending down gerbil food + sunflower hearts (minus shells) to a mush then adding a little water and sunflower oil to make a slurry, shes eaten that well.. we'll see how it goes!!
shes just coming up for 2years old in march, so maybe its just her time. she seems happy enough, so ive just reduced her cage to stop her going down into the aquarium, so her and fidget are in the cage, so i can keep an eye on her.. fidget is not impressed but ive put in a wheel to keep her amused.
